Starward is a craft distillery in Melbourne, the foodie capital of Australia. Founder Dave Vitale embraces the distillery’s surroundings and produces whisky that is meant to be enjoyed at the dinner table. Because they’re close to the Barossa Valley, a famous Australian wine region, many of Starward’s whiskies mature in red wine barrels. Fortis, coming from the lating meaning ‘bold’ or ‘brave’, is a higher strength single malt from former Shiraz and Cabernet wine barrels.
