Masataka Taketsuru built his first distillery, the Yoichi, in 1934, following Scottish example in northern Japan. In 1969 the Miyagikyou joined in there, near Tokyo. Yoichi makes a peated Whisky, Miyagikyou makes a much softer, non peatedWhisky. In the middle of Japan stands the Tochigi distillery where they only make Grain whisky. The Pure Malt is a blend of the 3 distilleries, with the emphasis on Yoichi. Firmly with a light trace of smoke.
