Nikka was founded in 1934, when Masataka Taketsuru built his first distillery in northern Japan, the Yoichi, following Scottish example. In 1969 the Miyagikyou joined, near Tokyo. Miyagikyou makes a soft, unpeated malt Whisky. Maturing takes place in bourbon casks and for a small part in Japanese oak wood. The climate is quite mild and participates in this gentle friendly whisky. Slightly spicy and fruity are the characteristics of this whisky.
