Islay Mist was first created in the 1920s, mainly using whisky from Laphroaig Distillery, supplemented by a variety of Speyside malts. It was initially blended for the 21st birthday celebration of the son and heir of Lord Margadale. To this day Islay Mist carries the seal of the Lord of the Isles—and Laphroaig is still at the heart of this iconic blended whisky. The special edition Islay Mist 8 Y yielded only 7,000 bottles and was finished for at least 6 months in Amontillado Napoleon Casks.
