Founded in 1797, Glen Garioch is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. There are claims of it producing legally at an even earlier date. Maturation in new oak casks that have never been used for any other spirit is rare in Scotch whisky. There are only a few distilleries even attempting it, as the influence of the wood can overpower the flavors of the whisky. Glen Garioch is one of those daring to use new oak — their Virgin Oak release is unlike most other Scotch whiskies you’ll have tried.
