XR, or' Extra Rare', is Crown Royal's flagship whisky from Canada, founded in 1939. Current production takes place at the Manitoba distillery in Gimli. The first XR is made from the last stocks of the old Waterloo distillery which closed in 1992. The current XR is Whisky from the nowadays also closed Lasalle distillery in Montreal. Crown Royal mainly uses rye for their Whisky and has it matured on bourbon casks.
