Undoubtedly the most well-known Canadian whisky, Crown Royal is one of the few whisky brands that lives up to its regal name. Crown Royal was first made to commemorate the Canadian tour of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1939. The whisky was served on board the royal train during the tour. Nowadays this Canadian classic is made in Gimli and about 80 percent of the grains (rye, corn and barley) are harvested in nearby provinces. The maturing barrels of Crown Royal experience extreme temperature swings, which adds to the developing character.
