Bruichladdich does things differently, while most neighboring distilleries on Islay are heavily peated, Bruichladdich usually doesn’t contain peat, they leave that up to their sister brand: Port Charlotte, while there big brother Octomore is a peat smoke extremist. But that’s not the only thing they do different, apart from their design they invest greatly in their community, and with a small island like Islay they support the local barley farmers by making a new special release each year where they only use locally harvested barley from farms around the distillery. This 2013 version is the newest one available in Europe, with the 2014 coming soon. We can’t wait to taste that one either.
