Since 1825, the Ben Nevis distillery is making whisky at the foot of the eponymous mountain. In mid-1989 Ben Nevis passed into Japanese hands, Nikka still owns it. There is not much whisky of Ben Nevis on the European market and that is a shame because it is a fine whisky. This 10 year old has matured in sherry casks. It is a well-kept secret that most whisky in the bottle is actually much older than 10 years.
