Founded in 1817, Auchentoshan’s claim to fame is that it is the only distillery in Scotland exclusively using triple distillation. A practice often associated with Irish whiskey, it means that Auchentoshan is distilled to a much higher strength than other Scottish whiskies. With this type of whisky there’s a higher risk of the spirit being overpowered by oak. Auchentoshan’s American Oak Reserve is carefully balanced whisky though, having fully matured in first-fill American oak casks. A prime example of what Auchentoshan is all about.
