The Eigashima Distillery (or White Oak Distillery) was founded in 1888, originally to produce sake. A few decades later this Japanese producer obtained a license for whisky, but it took them until 2007 to release their first single malt. Akashi is the only whisky made by a Toji (master in the art of sake making). Akashi Red is a blended whisky made from malt and grain whiskies. It also is very likely that this is a young whisky, although no official age statement is mentioned on the label.
