One of the longest-running whisky series, Aberlour has released its 69th (!) batch of the incredibly popular Aberlour a’bunadh. The name is Gaelic for ‘the original’. The story goes that a bottle of Aberlour from 1898 was discovered during refurbishment of the distillery in the 1970s. The workmen polished off much of the bottle. What little was left went off to the laboratory to be analysed. A’bunadh is an attempt to recreate this single malt. As always, this batch too matured in Spanish Oloroso sherry butts.
