While Italians have long been fascinated with Scotch whisky, they never really had any interest in producing their own whisky. That is, until Puni opened its doors in midst of the Italian Alps in 2012. Interestingly, Puni’s whisky is made not just from malted barley, but also from malted rye and malted wheat. Puni Gold is a limited-edition release and, according to the distillery, is the classic style of Italian malt whisky. It has matured exclusively in first-fill ex-bourbon casks in the distillery’s above-ground warehouses.
